Mr. Eric Prewitt is the ideal candidate for Veteran of the Year due to his tireless dedication and compassion for all students and particularly veterans.
After a distinguished military career, Officer Eric Prewitt of Havana returned to Alabama to assist veterans as the Veterans Resource Manager at Shelton State Community College (SSCC). Beginning his higher education career in 2005, he knew his calling was to help other veterans and their families achieve success through unlocking resources and setting goals. His military preparation and experience directly benefitted veteran students and their dependents as he focused his passion for national service into their lives.
Through multiple military recognitions, including the Sea Service Award, two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, and a Sailor of the Year nomination, Eric distinguished himself as a leader who consistently goes beyond what is required. At Shelton State, he has been nominated as Outstanding Support Staff Member and serves as a member of the Alabama Veterans Affairs Association and the Western Association of Veterans Education Specialists. His honors and his work reflect not only professional excellence, but trust, teamwork, and commitment to serving. These attributes are also displayed in the countless ways Eric serves students, supports colleagues, and strengthens the College.
Currently serving as Director of Financial Aid, Mr. Prewitt still supervises the Veteran’s Affairs Office. Additionally, he now oversees all other aspects of financial aid and commits time and energy to ensure that it thrives. His strong leadership and character embody Service in Action for both his colleagues and the broader campus community.
