Rob Barlow is an exemplary candidate for the Veteran of the Year® or Vetrepreneur® of the Year (VOY) Award due to his extensive contributions to law enforcement, canine training, and community service, all while exemplifying the values and skills of a dedicated veteran. Rob’s passion for training dogs began in childhood and blossomed when he joined a Schutzhund Club in 2006. His military service with the Utah National Guard, including a deployment to Iraq in 2010 where he worked with military K9s, further solidified his expertise.
Upon returning home, Rob established a K9 sports club in Texas, where he guided numerous dog owners in achieving various titles in Protection Sports Association (PSA) competitions. He is currently the President, Training Director, and Director of Decoys for the Salt City Hellhounds PSA Club, significantly impacting the local dog training community.
In tandem with his dog training career, Rob has been a law enforcement officer since 2008, evolving from a Corrections Officer to a Hostage Negotiator. He now serves with the Draper Police Department as a K9 Handler, achieving certification in narcotics detection and patrol work with his partner, K9 Judge.
Rob is also the owner of B-Hyve K9, which provides dog training, daycare, boarding, and grooming services to the Salt Lake County community. Clients have access to a variety of options, including group classes, private sessions, and board & train programs to ensure their dogs receive high-quality training.

What brings me joy is training dogs to compete in various dog sports. I love building a bond with them and being able to showcase our bond, hard work and dedication to each other in various venues. I love sharing what I've learned the past 20 years with others and be able to show my passion and dedication to my dogs to others. Reaper, is my 8 year old Dutch Shepherd. Reaper has been a huge part of my life the past 8 years and he holds many Scent/Nose Work Titles through the AKC, UKC, NACSW and DDT. Reaper has earned several High in Trial titles in several of these venues. Reaper has also earned titles in Protection Sports Association (holds a PSA2 title, French Ring (holds a CSAU title), and has a BH from IPO. I also certified him as a Police Patrol Dog through Utah POST in 2020. K9 Judge, a Belgian Malinois, was my police dog from 2016 to 2021. K9 Judge had 2 previous handlers and when he came to
Rob has always felt a bond with his dog companions as he was growing up. Rob has trained all his family dogs with ease and confidence, even as a young child. Rob got into K9 competitive sports in 2006 by joining a Schutzhund Club where he learned skills in how to train various dog breeds in tracking, obedience, and protection. In 2006, Rob joined the Utah National Guard and was deployed to Iraq in 2010. While deployed Rob was able to work with some of the Military K9's who were on the same base. After Rob returned home from Iraq, he started his own K9 sports club, which trained dogs for Protection Sports Association (PSA) in Texas. Rob helped many people and their dogs accomplish titles in PSA from 2012 till 2015.
