Janice B. Sneed is a veteran leader, educator, and community builder. Her 20-year military career—14 of which were served concurrently with a 28-year tenure in higher education—speaks volumes about her commitment to excellence and service.
She served as a communications officer, medical administrative officer, and command post comptroller in the U.S. Air Force and Reserves, earning honors such as Officer of the Quarter and the Inspector General Award. Her dedication to structure, integrity, and strategy followed her into civilian life, where she rose to become Vice Chancellor at Southern University at Shreveport.
Her leadership resulted in over $50 million in grants and contracts, creating multiple workforce and education centers and implementing nationally recognized training programs. Janice has also been honored with the Athena Nomination, United Way Partnership Award, and the Foundation of Hope’s “Yes We Can” award.
She now leads Community Solutions and Services, LLC, a consulting firm helping nonprofits and community organizations access funding, expand impact, and operate excellently. She serves as a board member or advisor to various organizations, including Petrina’s Purple Passion, Ivy Crown Community Services, Inc., and the Multicultural Development Center.
I am a reflection of the family who shaped me. My grandparents, Paul and Josephine Brown, who adopted me, and my mother, Lizzie Temple, taught me that faith, family, and service are life’s true cornerstones. Their lessons became my foundation. Today, my husband, children, and grandchildren are my constant source of joy and purpose. When my daughter survived a life-altering accident that left her temporarily paralyzed, her courage—and the unwavering love of our faith and family community—reminded me that we are called to lift others, especially in life’s hardest seasons. The causes I support, like Petrina’s Purple Passion, are deeply personal. Founded by my dear friend Lucinda Thornton in honor of her daughter, the late Petrina Gay Jenkins, who advocated for survivors of domestic violence until her final days—this work is legacy work. I’ve been blessed to live, love, and lead. Now, I serve to leave a legacy where God placed my feet.
