Tim is a visionary leader and dedicated Veteran with over 15 years of service as an MQ-9 Pilot in the North Dakota Air National Guard. Known for his mentorship and leadership, Tim was recognized with a nomination for Airman of the Year in 2016. He consistently goes above and beyond to uplift those around him, especially young airmen seeking guidance.
In 2022, Tim channeled his passion for service into founding Heroes Compass, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit inspired by his late veteran father. The organization supports military members, veterans, first responders, and their families. Under Tim’s leadership, Heroes Compass has grown from an idea into a mission-driven, impactful nonprofit delivering over 500 care packages to deployed service members and their families, homeless veterans, police officers, firefighters and first responders.
Tim's efforts also include raising over $12,000 in collaboration with a local business for officers affected by the killing of a local police officer in 2022. In 2023, he worked with a gym to fund more than $1,000 in adaptive equipment and scholarships for veterans. He continues to innovate with programs like the Heroes Compass coin challenge, which is designed for both civilians and service members to recognize those who serve. Tim also created a series of custom-designed journals for military members and their families.
Tim exemplifies the spirit of a Vetrepreneur, not only leading a successful nonprofit but doing so with heart, vision, and an unwavering dedication to others. His leadership and community contributions make him a worthy candidate for this honor.
In 2023, Heroes Compass emerged from the shared vision of military veterans Rick Kuhn and his son, Tim Kuhn. Rick's legacy, marked by his company Veterans Pest Control, his 20 years of service in the ND Army National Guard, and his service as Fargo Post 762 Commander, lives on through the mission of Heroes Compass. Following Rick's passing, Tim's determination to honor their shared commitment led to the establishment of this non-profit dedicated to providing unwavering support to those who selflessly serve our community. There are many people who have influenced me in my life. As one can see, my Dad played a huge role. The other person is my Mom. She has shown me to have a huge heart with everything you do. Give more than you receive. Look after people during the highs and lows of their life. Without her guidance I would not be able to accept this award today. She's my hero.
