As a dedicated student veteran at the University of Tennessee, I believe I am an ideal candidate for the Veteran of the Year
Currently, I serve as the President of the Student Veterans of America chapter at the university. In this role, I have been impactful revitalizing the program post-COVID, ensuring that student veterans receive the support and resources they need to succeed academically and personally. My leadership has brought new energy and direction to the SVA, fostering a strong community of veterans on campus. In addition to my role in the SVA, I am a Senator in the Student Government Association, where I have successfully advocated for higher education initiatives with state legislators. My efforts have significantly impacted policies that benefit not only veterans but the entire student body. My commitment to veterans' issues is evident in my active involvement in campus advocacy. Moreover, I serve on the Judicial Board of the Interfraternity Council and hold the position of Vice President of Risk Management in my fraternity, Delta Kappa Epsilon. These roles highlight my dedication to maintaining a safe and supportive environment for all students, demonstrating my ability to lead and manage effectively. Outside of my academic responsibilities, I work as a Federal Work Study, assisting current student veterans with their VA paperwork. This role underscores my commitment to helping fellow veterans navigate the complexities of their benefits, ensuring they receive the support they deserve. My extensive involvement, leadership, and advocacy make me a competitive candidate for the Veteran of the Year My contributions to the veteran community and the broader university environment are truly commendable.
After leaving the Army, my transition to civilian life was anything but smooth. I explored multiple careers—from HVAC to personal banking at Wells Fargo—while privately battling service-connected mental health challenges. A turning point came when I was paired with my service dog, Margie, through America’s VetDogs. With her support, I made the leap into higher education. I found out I was accepted to the University of Tennessee just 15 days before the spring semester began. The Veteran Success Center became my anchor, providing critical guidance, resources, and a sense of belonging. That support helped me not only stay on track, but thrive. I’ve since found a passion for empowering fellow student veterans through advocacy and leadership. The road here was long and difficult, but what brings me true happiness now is helping others find their way, just as others once helped me
