CSM (R) Martin (Marty) M. Mieras Jr. exemplifies professionalism and veteran support throughout his military and civilian careers. As the Military Programs Specialist for the USPS, he is tireless in his efforts to keep nearly 70,000 Postal military veterans informed of their veteran benefits. He is an energetic and proud advocate for all veteran issues across the entire Postal Service. He holds regular Veteran Roundtables and publishes Mail Call Newsletters covering topics including VA benefits, VA Disability Benefits, Postal Military veteran benefits, USPS career opportunities, USPS promotion opportunities, veteran workshops for benefits and career advancement opportunities, suicide prevention, Military Buy-Back Program, USPS Veterans Preference, and Wounded Warrior Leave. He is constantly connecting veterans with Veteran Service officers and USPS recruiters. He also assists supervisors and managers with all their veteran questions, issues, and concerns. His efforts also include recognition and appreciation items and certificates that are distributed to nearly 70,000 Postal military veterans. Through his efforts, the Postal service recognizes military appreciation month of May and Veterans’ Day.
CSM (R) Mieras Jr. is a retired Command Sergeant Major with 34 years of military service. His highest decorations include The Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (third award), the Army Commendation Medal (sixth award), the Army Achievement (15th Award), Valorous Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Award, Army Superior Unit Award (second award). His overseas duty assignments included West Germany, West Berlin, Germany, Desert Storm, Iraq, Kosovo, and Afghanistan. He was awarded the Order of the Spur from the US Army Armor Corps, the Ancient Order of Saint Christopher from the US Army Transportation Corps, and The Order of Saint Martin from the US Army Quartermaster Corps.
His support of veterans resulted in three All-State Commander awards and two All-American Commander awards from the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Marty’s credo is “it is not about me; it’s about my soldiers.” His outspoken support of veterans with PTSD landed him on the cover of the Careers and the Disabled Magazine. He openly shares his journey with PTSD in hopes he will motivate others to get help like he did. He uses his car hobby to support veterans. As President of the West Michigan Mustang Club, he supports the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans, local high schools, private car shows for local retirement communities, and Lori’s Voice Charity. Proceeds from Club events are donated back to local non-profits. His passion for cars connects him with veterans of all ages. From handshake to car ride to a Veterans Service Officer, Marty does it all for our military veterans. His love of cars and his collection of 24 Mustangs including the world’s largest Mustang Pace Car collection is always a conversation starter.
