I joined the Army in May 1998 because my wife was pregnant with my oldest son, Brian David Heffernan Jr. I wanted to be stand up dad and role model he could emulate in the future. I had many accomplishments during my time such as Division Soldier of the Year x 2, Division NCO of the Year x 2, Distinguished Honor Graduate Basic Leader Course, Division Station Commander of the Year x 2, and Brigade First Sergeant of the Year x 2, and Audie Murphy Club inductee. Those accomplishments were shaped by a desire to be a good dad and care for my family. The best accomplishment was seeing my son serve the same Army and have that level of success. We both were able to receive our bachelor's degree, and I received my masters. He is currently taking classes to receive his in 2026, that is my greatest accomplishment!
